Augusto Pieroni
(Rome, 1966) He's an historian and critic of contemporary art and the photographic arts. For over ten years he has been teaching History of Photography at the University of Tuscia (Viterbo) and at the University of Rome La Sapienza. He teaches Visual Arts at the Scuola Romana di Fotografia, Critical Analysis and Portfolio Construction at Officine Fotografiche, History of Photography at RUFA and IED – Fashion. He conducts masterclasses and workshops on Creative Personal Project and Portfolio Construction at photographic associations and professional schools throughout Italy. Portfolio reader and juror of prizes and professional competitions, member of the final jury of Portfolio Italia 2012.
He is the author of Leggere la fotografia – Osservazione e analisi delle immagini fotografiche (Edup, 2nd ed. 2006). Among his other publications: Arti fotografiche del ‘900 (Editori Riuniti, 2° ed. 2010), Fotografia in Enciclopedia Treccani - XXI secolo (2007); Fotografia-Arte-Pensiero (Lithos, 2002); Fototensioni (Castelvecchi, 1999); and numerous essays on photographic, artistic and cultural subjects. He has been curator of numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad. As a critic and journalist, he has written for publications such as Aperture (New York), HotShoe (London), Eyemazing (Amsterdam), Muse (Milan), Around Photography (Bologna).
