Synopsis

Almost Europe is a journey throughout Europe, the “land with the broad look” in its ethimological sense; a road from Kaliningrad to Istanbul, all along the “blue curtain”. It reveals the new borders drawn after the last UE’s enlargement towards the East.

The book is also the first chapter of the Trilogia Europea, which is made up of the following books Still Europe and Europa Texas.

Luca Nizzoli Toetti
(Venice, 1973) He's a photographer, teacher and musician. His career starts in the early Nineties in Milan where he collaborates with Il Corriere della Sera. Over the years, his photographs have been published in all major national and international newspapers and magazines. He has curated two editions (October 2010, October 2011) of the Ivrea Festival della Fotografia Independente, involving many of the best Italian photojournalism colleagues and experts. In 2010 he won the Bruce Chatwin Prize with the Kaliningrad series, which he exhibited in Genoa at Palazzo Ducale. His work has been showcased at SlideLuck Potshow 2011, Fotoleggendo 2011, FoianoFotografia 2011, Bursa Photo Fest 2012, and in several group exhibitions. In 2012 he began working on Almost Europe, a project of reflection and documentation of everyday life in countries on the edge of the European belt. Almost Europe (Postcart Edizioni, 2013) is the first volume of the European trilogy, continued with Still Europe (Postcart, 2017), a journey that starts from Europe to go towards Europe itself, at the center of the idea on which it rests. The volume is accompanied by texts of Francesco Acerbis and Zygmunt Bauman. Europa Texas is the last volume of the trilogy. At the beginning of 2019 he founded Spaziergang, a publishing house focused on photographic projects. For emuse he edited the volume G8/twenty (2021). Faithful to his nature, Luca is always on the road.
