Thanks to its dual aesthetic and advertising value, for over sixty years the cover of the album has been one of the most effective tools for disseminating photographic experiments, sometimes very radical, to a very wide and highly heterogeneous audience from a geographical and social point of view.
Through a selection of one hundred and forty images, the volume offers for the first time an extensive survey of the covers made, from the 1950s to today, by internationally recognized photographers, including Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Luigi Ghirri, William Klein , David La Chapelle, Robert Mapplethorpe, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Pierre & Gilles, W.E. Smith.
