Marquez’s literary world magically revealed by Italian photographer Fausto Giaccone. As Gerald Martin, the most important Márquez’s biographer writes: «I spent almost twenty years of my own life researching a biography of the life and works of Gabriel García Márquez, one of the world’s greatest writers, not only in libraries and archives but along the roads, rivers and seabords of Colombia, taking notes everywhere I went. And meanwhile, quite independently, another European, Fausto Giaccone, was creating a visual equivalent of those experiences, travelling also along the roads, rivers and seaboards of Colombia, taking photographs everywhere he went. And here they are, in this wonderful book. And here am I introducing them to the world.»
Fausto Giaccone
Born in Tuscany in 1943 but educated in Palermo, he graduated in architecture in Rome, where he began his activity as a photojournalist in 1967, at the dawn of the 1968 movement. He has followed the Italian and international news throughout the 1970s, always as a freelance. In Milan since the early 1980s, he has collaborated, always as a freelance, with the most important magazines.
Since the early 1990s he has been traveling all over the world especially for geographic magazines. His more personal books are: A Portuguese Story, Randazzo/focus 1987, Macondo, Postcart 2013, Faces of Cavallino Treporti, Edifir 2013, Gino De Dominicis, Zodiaco 1970, Nero editore. He currently lives in Bracciano (Rome).
